Edinburgh International Book Festival: 1995 - GRRRLS ALOUD (August 10th)
(Spiegeltent, August 10, 9pm-10.30pm)
I’m thrilled to be chairing / hosting / introducing some really special events at this year’s Edinburgh International Book Festival, and tickets are on-sale now! Two Hamish Hawk via Ivor Cutler shows (both now SOLD OUT); a discussion with legendary producer Joe Boyd (Pink Floyd, Nick Drake, REM) AND - as a counter to the Murrayfield Oasis swagger (nothing against them, btw; but it is a fab excuse for another party / line of enquiry) - a femme-fuelled bash in The Spiegeltent on August 10th…
Here’s more info…
1995: GRRRLS ALOUD
Murrayfield might be basking in Oasis nostalgia, but the mid-90s wasn’t all blokes and Britpop. Join BBC broadcaster and A Kick Up The Arts host Nicola Meighan for a celebration of the femme-powered revolution that was kicking off in Scotland, circa ‘95.
It was the summer that Garbage released their debut album; that Annie Lennox ruled the charts with Medusa; that Glasgow’s Delgados upturned the landscape with their songs, and label, Chemikal Underground. The band’s Emma Pollock reflects on that time - and its reverberations to this day - alongside writers Carrie Marshall, Chitra Ramaswamy, and theatre livewire Cora Bissett - soundtracked by guest DJ sets, and live music from Hen Hoose Collective’s Cariss Crosbie, who’ll reimagine some glorious mid-90s gems.
What’s the story? Oh, there’s always more than one…
Tickets here! We would really love you to join us…
